Parrotfish

Parrotfish graze the coral reef during the day, Using their unique parrot-like teeth, they scrape calcareous alge off the rocks and other substrate accomplishing two very important things. First, the removal of the algae give corals the chance to grow on the cleaned substrate creating new coral reef and secondly the rock-like algae passes through the parrotfish’s digestive system and is excreted as sand. One parrotfish can produce 90 kilograms (200 lb) of sand each year.
