Fisherman casts Fry Net
Jost Van Dyke Fisherman, Junie Coakley, casts a fry net.

Fry nets are used to catch the Atlantic silverside, Menidia menidia, more commonly known as fry, which are used for bait.

St. Johnian craftsman, Mario Benjamin, has been weaving these nets for 18 years. It takes him about four months to complete one.

These are the most beautiful fry nets I’ve ever seen. One of them is even displayed in the Smithsonian Institution.
