St. John's beauty is found all over the island: on the beaches and in the reefs, forests and ruins. Hiking during the day is popular, and some great places can be found within walking distance. Another way to try to explore the island and its neighbors is by motored transportation, with a taxi, ferry or barge.
Taxi service is easy to find on St. John. Taxis can be called to pick you up if you need. Taxis charge per person and per destination, there are no metered taxis.
The Vitran Bus System services various areas of the island. Vitran buses run along Centerline Road, about once an hour. The fare is $1 a person, and Senior Citizens can get a discounted fare of $0.55. The Vitran Bus system is not very reliable, so if you're on a schedule, it's not a good idea to rely on the bus.
Inter-island travel is facilitated by ferry service between St. Thomas and St. John and commuter airlines on St. Thomas.
