I remember passing by the south coast of St. John at night in a boat and not seeing a light until I reached Cruz Bay.

How about sharing your photos? There's a lot of people out there with those super fond memories of "the good old days."

Thanks so much for a trip back to the 70's, I was there a lot back then and thinking about the island in those days always tears at my heart and soul, I have pics from back then, one is a beautiful sunset pic from Cinnamon and not a house on the hill in sight..been coming back ever since, been around the world and there still is no place like St. John, hope to spend the end of my days there

The 1970's was the last wonderful decade for St. John. Any of us living there at that time, would agree, and feel very lucky to have been there at that special time. The island was still somewhat pristine...and some of the lovely original folks were still alive. Cruzan Rum was 90 cents a bottle, the Out was the place to be...and we all lived a wonderful, crazy life there. Many loves were lived out back then. While Coral Bay still holds some of the early flavor, Cruz Bay is too much like Ft. Lauderdale now.
I am so lucky to have been there, then.

My husband and I were married on Trunk Bay in 2003 by Ann Marie. We love the island and the people. We took our then 6 year old daughter Emily in 2007 and will be returning June of 2009 for 10 days. She has been bitten by the beauty of the island and its people as well...I find myself day dreaming every day about this beautiful place. If we could, we would pack everything we have and move...St John is part of my soul and god willing we will make her our family vacation spot as frequently as possible. Its a piece of heaven to us...

I love St. John and the people! Just like Mr. Singer said, the locals are welcoming to new visitors and so friendly. Everyone is very relaxed and laid back.
