This Earl character is giving me a tropical depression.

Presently a Tropical Storm, he’s forecast to become a Cat-1 hurricane later today.

Well it’s that time of year folks. St. John as well as the rest of the US and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are officially under a Hurricane Watch, meaning that “Hurricane conditions are possible within the next 36 hours.”

Yuck, yuck and more yuck. There’s so much to be done and I feel like Maynard G. Krebbs … “WORK!” And I’d rather go snorkeling.

It was such a nice week so far, calm seas, perfect weather. But in the words of my friend from Jost Van Dyke, Foxy Callwood, “such is life.”

It’s still early though, and a sharp northward turn would be nice.

  1. Thinking of you all and praying for your safety. St. John is my favorite place to be on this earth, been searching and continue to search for any news as to the destruction down your way. We make yearly trips to STJ, even though we don’t own property (yet) on the island, I feel a responsibility as such, hard to explain! I guess probably because I leave a little more of my heart there each and every time I leave! Hows that saying go “If you’re lucky enough to be on St. John, you’re lucky enough!” Even on difficult days like today and the days ahead, that might be a good saying to try to remember.

Gods speed, you all are in our thoughts and prayers…

  2. Hey Gerald, how’d you fare through Earl? Looks like not too much damage except for boats being beached, some wild “pruning” and the dinghy dock at Cruz Bay. Is your beloved garden OK?

Love the remark about Maynard G. Krebbs! I can still hear him saying it in that high cracked voice. But I see him as Gilligan….fits the scenerio better, no?

Hope all is well. Looking forward to your next post. Watch out for Fiona!
